After an incident packed race where no fewer than 6 runners retired, 4 of which on the first lap, Tio kept his cool to climb two places from his 9th place qualifying position. This positive result came on the back of the dedicated setup work done during Friday practice and qualifying.

Rene Binder who had initially finished just ahead of Tio was also given a 20 second time penalty, thereby demoting him to 15th place. The penalty came as a result of the 22 year old Austrian failing to properly observe yellow flags.
